For the direct numerical simulation of incompressible turbulent flows, we have started to develop a special solver based on structured meshes with a fast multigrid algorithm incorporating projection-like schemes. The main idea is to use non-conforming finite elements for the velocities with piecewise constant pressures, leading to a special structure of the discrete Schur complement, when an explicit treatment of the convection and diffusion term is used. This development is done in view of the application to turbulent flows from Section 4.3 .
