Ting Peng, an Ariana PhD student from 2005–2008, was awarded one of the five 2008 European Best IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society PhD prizes for her work on `New Higher-Order Active Contour Models, Shape Priors, and Multiscale Analysis and their Application to Road Network Extraction from Very High Resolution Satellite Images'. Hers was a joint PhD with LIAMA in Beijing, China. Her thesis advisors were Ian Jermyn and Josiane Zerubia from Ariana, and Veronique Prinet and Baogang Hu from LIAMA. The thesis was partially funded by Thales Alenia Space.
