Symbolic tools for modeling and simulation

Industrial modeling and simulation processes are usually based on scientific theories, using formula for describing physical features and computation algorithms. Based on these formula, numerical methods are developed and numerical codes are implemented for simulation and visualization of these features. Due to the large number of parameters and equations involved in industrial models and to the diversity of physical contexts, it is an huge work to produce and test such numerical codes.
Our contribution to this domain consists in specifying, designing and implementing various methods and tools for automatic generation of numerical simulators from the symbolic formula. It is a joint activity with several departments of Airbus Aerospace company in Toulouse based on a former development of a framework for edition, communication, and documentation of models.
In 2004 we focused on
unit coherence analysis in large set of formulas,
automatic orientation of formulas for solving purposes,
model description and C code generation for real time simulation.
